Sometimes You Have to Lose to Win

Navigating cutting people off can be a difficult and often necessary step in protecting your peace and stability. This is especially true when it comes to friends who don't respect your recovery journey. It can be painful to let go of people who have been a part of your life for a long time, but if they are toxic and hindering your progress, it may be the best decision for your mental and emotional well-being.

First and foremost, it's important to recognize when a friendship was no longer serving me. If a friend is constantly bringing negativity into my life, triggering unhealthy behaviors, or not supporting your recovery journey, it may be time to reevaluate the relationship. Trust your instincts and pay attention to how you feel when you are around this person. If they are causing you stress or anxiety, it may be time to cut ties.

When it comes to actually cutting someone off, it's important to approach the situation with compassion and honesty. I found that having a conversation with the person and explain your reasons for needing to step away from the friendship. Be clear and firm in your boundaries and communicate how their actions have impacted you. It's important to prioritize your own well-being and set boundaries that protect your peace and stability.

It's also important to surround yourself with a supportive network of friends and loved ones who understand and respect your recovery journey. Seek out relationships that uplift and empower you, rather than drag you down. Connect with people who share your values and goals, and who support your growth and progress.

Remember, it's okay to prioritize your own well-being and say no to toxic relationships. Cutting people off can be a difficult and painful process, but sometimes it's necessary in order to protect your peace and stability. Trust yourself and your instincts, and know that you deserve to be surrounded by people who respect and support you on your journey to recovery.
