The Science of Meditation, According to Kate

Meditation comes under different names: meditation, prayer, cleaning, grounding and more. Come have a seat and we'll chat about it.

I’m not a professional in this field at all, but here are connections I’ve made that may help you. Let’s start with something that has been scientifically proven. Masaru Emoto, a New York Times bestselling author (2004), discovered that if thoughts and words are directed at water, the water crystals undergo changes depending upon whether the words or thoughts are positive or negative (The Hidden Messages in Water). Positive thoughts lead to changes in the water crystals that make some of them look like fractals and snowflakes while negative thoughts make the water look distorted.

Some more science we know is from H.H. Mitchell in The Journal of Biological Chemistry (p158) is that the human body is made up of over 60% water; the brain and the heart have even higher percentages at 73%! Just imagine what a 73% water heart and brain can manifest when powered by meditation. So, it would seem that meditation could be metamorphizing to the human body and mind!!

Meditation is different for everyone, feel free explore and figure out what works best for you. Here is my favorite set of meditations from Abraham Hicks[1] :

These fifteen-minute meditations have been transformative for me. I find guided meditation to be beneficial as it enables me to focus on the things I want to manifest in my life. Clearing out my mind and thinking about nothing is not one of my strengths, but filling my mind with love and gratitude is something I can do for short periods of time.

Another meditation that I love is Ho’oponopono's Hawaiian healing prayer for repentance, self-forgiveness, and transmutation[2]. I cleanse with this meditation whenever something is triggering or upsetting me. To perform this spiritual exercise, I bring the person or situation that is disrupting my peace into my main focus, and then I repeat Ho’oponopono's four phrases:

“I’m sorry. I forgive you. Thank you. I love you.”

These simple phrases have power; the power of repentance, forgiveness, love, and gratitude, to erase and transmute any limiting memories or beliefs. For each phrase, I allow my mind to feel it completely in my body for the issue. If I struggle to have the feeling (love, forgiveness, contrition, gratitude) in regards to this issue, I imagine what would that statement would feel like.  Then I try to stay in that feeling for a bit before moving to the next statement. These phrases are a key to changing emotional responses, repeating the process until I feel some relief.

Regardless of what your demons may be, meditation has the power to transform your mind and body. The science behind the effects of meditation on our bodies is intriguing and suggests the transformative power of this practice for our emotional and physical wellbeing. Guided meditations like those by Abraham Hicks and the Hawaiian healing prayer of Ho’oponopono are just a few examples of the many techniques available to help you find peace, love, and gratitude. The key is to explore and find the technique that works best for you. Whether you're struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, addiction or simply want to improve your general wellbeing, incorporating meditation into your daily routine could be the best decision you ever make.
